The House with a History (And What It Taught Me About Second Chances)

We all carry baggage, don’t we? Past hurts, old disappointments… sometimes, it feels like we’re dragging a whole trunk of ‘what ifs’ behind us. Houses can carry baggage too. Michele and I found one of those houses. It wasn’t just old; it had stories whispered in the town, the kind that makes the hairs on your neck prickle.

I was ready to pass, but Michele saw something else. She had this knack for seeing beyond the surface, for recognizing the potential beneath the grime. It made me think: how often do we do that with people? With ourselves? We write off situations, close doors, because we’re afraid of the ghosts of the past.

But here’s the thing: second chances are real. Whether it’s a dilapidated house or a bruised heart, transformation is possible if you’re willing to look beyond the surface. As the saying goes, ‘Home is where the heart is.’ And sometimes, you have to create that home from the ruins of what was.
